Destine Sudano & Nick Griffith had one a windy day photo shoot April 19, 2009 on Morris Avenue, downtown Birmingham, AL. Nevertheless, their photos turned out great, with fun, carefree, candid shots. We even have them displayed in our new Homewood gallery location too! Their big day is just around the corner – October 3, 2009 at Mountain View Ballroom and Gardens. I know it will be just as much fun and we are really looking forward to their wedding!

Jim had the honor of photographing Julie & Brett Brown’s wedding on June 6, 2009.
Read below about her special day. Also a big thanks to all of their wedding vendors who helped to make their day so special.
Our wedding took place at the home of the groom’s father in Daphne, AL on the bay. We were so fortunate to have a beautiful, sunny June day with a calm bay. Our ceremony was poolside on the garden patio with all the colorful flowers surrounding the white colonnade where we exchanged our vows. The reception followed immediately with dinner on the pool deck and around the pool house. Our guests, including many small children, seemed to enjoy mingling (or playing) on the golf green and walking by the bay and down the pier. We finally departed the festivities to a night at the Grand Hotel at Point Clear before enjoying our honeymoon vacation at the Esperanza Resort in Cabo San Lucas. We got the wedding we had hoped for….a beautiful outdoor setting with a fun and casual surrounding!

Jim and Keri met Lauren Bethune for her bridal shoot in February….we are so blessed to have the expertise of Keri as our 2nd photographer to shoot alongside Jim!
Read Keri’s post below.
I assisted with a bridal portrait shoot on a sunny, yet, VERY CHILLY day in February at Botanical Gardens in Birmingham. (The put your long-johns on, get your toboggan, gloves, and down-coat and try not to shiver too much because you’ll get blurry pictures kind of day). Meanwhile, Lauren, in her sleeveless gown, was all smiles and chill bumps. Lauren’s parents and younger sister were in tow to help with her gown and cathedral length veil during the shoot.
This particular shoot was a blast. This girl loved to have her picture taken! She hammed it up for us and never once complained about the cold. (I secretly think she’d watched a few episodes of some modeling shoots just before the appointment or maybe had been practicing her Vogue moves in front of her mirror!) She was a natural!
Not to mention, she had beautiful dark auburn hair, piercing blue eyes, and fair skin. Hint – speaking of fair skin…Don’t go to the tanning bed for color for your wedding, especially with those natural features! Fake bakes are so ’90′s! Anyway, it was nice to meet Lauren and her family prior to the wedding. Come wedding day, you feel like old friends.

Creative ways to share your photos.
Think outside the box to find creative ways to share your photos and have a keepsake for many years to come.
Beyond the basic wedding album, see the ideas below that will make your photos memories live longer. Call Jim Little Photography to help you preserve your special memories.
Enlarge a Special Detail
A slice of the wedding that’s blown up to larger-than-life-size can dress up a wall like a piece of art. (Depending on the photo quality, try 11″ x 14″ or larger.) What to choose: a portrait of your bouquet, candles on a table, your bridal shoes. Black-and-white is especially effective. Take the print to a pro to be matted and framed (white and black are always safe bets). Hang in a niche or over a bureau.
Publish the Story of You
Imagine your wedding as a coffee-table book. Design teams at custom publishers will lay out your shots and vary the pacing (pages of the wedding party followed by a spread of the wedding site), then bind them into a sleek hardcover book. If your photographer doesn’t offer the service, contact a manufacturer like GraphiStudio.
Create Some Shelf Life
Photo display ledges and rails, available at stores like Pottery Barn and Crate & Barrel and from companies like Exposures, let you create a mini gallery. For a unified look, select all black-and-white prints, or use identical frames to give any group visual cohesion. Don’t limit yourself to wedding photos; shots from your honeymoon lend interest. A framed invitation adds charm. Perfect display spots: a hallway, family room, or powder room.

Pick up a copy of the Southern Bride Magazine, Winter 2009 issue. Jim Little Photography is featured several times throughout the magazine. The Wedding Theme section features Jim’s beautiful photography highlighting a Cinco De Mayo theme. The photo shoot showcases some of the more traditional aspects of a Mexican wedding, with Aztec designs, mantilla lace, Moroccans, gold coins, and bright colors above earth tones. B&A Warehouse was a perfect venue location lending architectural integrity to the rustic old-world feel. To appeal to today’s bride, the antique look was complimented with modern dresses, creative and fun food stations, and signature martinis. This look honors the past while celebrating the present and the future. Article credit: Alabama Southern Bride Magazine.
In the Real Wedding article, the wedding of Angela & Lee is also featured. Angela & Lee were married April 26, 2008. The wedding was at Angela’s home church, Riverchase Church of Christ with a reception to follow at Ross Bridge. Angela remembers one of her favorite moments was seeing her husband for the first time. They had an arranged meeting by Jim Little, her photographer, before the wedding to take pictures. Angela says, “When I rounded the corner and saw him in his tux, standing there waiting to see me in my dress, I started to laugh and cry all at the same time. To this day, it’s the only time I have seen him cry”. Read more about Angela’s special wedding day on pages 72-74 of Southern Bride Magazine. When in the course of planning a wedding, couples are faced with the question “Are you going to see each other before the ceremony?” Lots of couples are quick to answer “No” when maybe, just maybe, “Yes” could be the preferred answer.
The Tradition – Not To See
The tradition of “hiding” the bride from the groom, prior to the wedding comes from the days of arranged marriages when a wedding was merely a business deal between fathers. Things like love and attraction on the part of the bride and groom had nothing to do with it. The groom saw the bride, for the first time, when she walked down the aisle and a veil covered her face. After the minister pronounced them man and wife, the groom then lifted the veil, not only to kiss the bride, but also to see the face he would be waking up to for the rest of his life.
Photographs Before Ceremony Save Time and allow for A Private Moment Together …

Bouquet Jewelry is a hot new bridal accessory that is being used to accentuate and personalize bridal bouquets. They are also turning up in bridesmaid’s flowers, boutonnieres, centerpieces, and even customizing the wedding cake . The jewelry is usually inserted into the bouquet by a six inch post, but may also be attached to stems and hand-tied ribbons.
A popular choice is Swarovski crystal monograms using the bride and groom’s initials. They may choose to use the initial for each of their first names as well as the initial for the groom’s last name. Six mm faux diamonds can also be inserted into the center of each flower to give the bouquet a dazzling new look.
Besides monograms, most online companies have the same selection of jewels: pearl clusters, bows, snowflake, bee, frog, dragonfly, starfish, flip flop sandal, palm tree, butterfly and crucifix. The bee only comes in clear crystal and the frog and palm tree come only in peridot crystals. The flip flop sandal comes in blue or pink. Pearls come in pink, yellow, white, blue, green, lavender, peach, champagne and platinum. The bows come in a wide range of colors with gold or silver plating.
Read more about price ranges, reflecting your personal taste, and for ideas of how to use the jewelry long after the wedding.

As soon as a diamond ring is slipped on a woman’s left hand, she knows she has taken on a big job—planning a wedding. Perhaps it is no coincidence that another meaning of “engaged” is “busy.” There are many decisions to make and even more people—caterers, florists, musicians, clergy and more—to track down and spend time with. It’s daunting just figuring out how to get started ….

There are so many things to think about when planning your wedding – the article below, written by
Nick Kakolowski, will give you many helpful hints and ideas… and of course if you need more information about photographing your special day, contact Jim thru our website, www.jimlittlephotography.com
What To Consider When Planning A Wedding
Planning a wedding can be a stressful experience if not handled correctly. There are a multitude of tasks to be completed and the potential to leave something out is extremely high. Therefore, the more planning and preparation that can be done the better chance no aspect will be left out or not completed, and the wedding will be a fun and memorable event.
There is a good chance that the weeks leading up to the wedding day will be extremely intense and busy. It is a good idea to set up schedule months in advance which covers all of the necessary tasks to be completed. As you get closer to the special day, check off these tasks one by one. The more time you allot for planning ahead of time, the more likely nothing will be left out, and you can be confident that everything and everyone is taken care of.

Jim had the pleasure of shooting Barret and Stuart’s engagement photos in November! What a beautiful fall setting! Jim traveled to Vincent, AL for an ‘on location’ shoot to the family’s lakeside vacation cabin. It was a beautiful fall day — Jim captured the fire of the fall colors, the golden glow of the fallen leaves and used the gorgeous background to show off the sweet couple. Barret and Stuart were easy-going and a lot of fun to photograph! Thank you for allowing Jim to take part in the excitement of your engagement and the joy of your upcoming wedding celebration in June of 2009. The wedding will take place June 27, 2009 at the Philadelphia Baptist Church in Cahaba Heights with a reception to follow at Pine Tree Country Club. Can’t wait!
FYI – give us a call, we’ll shoot anywhere you like – pick your favorite ‘on location’ site within the Birmingham, AL or Metro Atlanta, GA area – and Jim will handle all the rest!
See a couple of favorite photos!

Choosing a honeymoon destination can often be very frustrating. A few lucky couples may be given a honeymoon trip as a wedding present, or others may have the financial means to travel to the destination of their choice.
There are plenty of options for the couple on a budget, especially if you plan early.
Planning – When you make your initial wedding budget, set aside an amount for your honeymoon. This way you will have a trip fund. You don’t have to allow for the entire cost, just a fund you can add to for that reason. It will grow.
Go to www.theweddingchannel.com to learn more great ideas – consider staying in the country, island hopping, or even postponing your honeymoon so it won’t be during “high season rates”.

The tradition for the Groom’s cake began in the South. It was a symbol of the couple’s “sweet” life that they will have together. Go to www.AlabamaBridal.com and you’ll see ideas for modern cake designs, how to make the groom’s cake special to match his personality, his favorite flavor, and much more…Remember the Groom’s cake does not always have to be a chocolate cake. He might just love carrot cake! Or he may prefer cupcakes! There is no limit to the design and it does not have to be “traditional”.

With wedding planning, it can get very hectic quickly. That’s why you need a “plan for your wedding planning” as odd as this may sound. You should determine early on what tasks will have to be completed to successfully plan the wedding on time and within budget.
Things to Do Early
There are some things that just can’t wait when it comes to wedding planning. First, secure your photographer of choice with a money deposit. Once you have a wedding date set, you can talk with a photographer and schedule the photo session for your bridal portraits and secure their services for your wedding day. The reason you’ll want to book this very early is because photographers (really good ones) are usually booked months in advance, and many weddings are on weekend days.
Find a wedding dress early on as well so you’ll have time for fitting, ordering, and alterations (if needed). The bridesmaids will need plenty of time for their dresses so keep them informed also. Choose wedding colors and possibly a wedding theme before you start planning. Once you know the colors, you can start shopping for wedding favors and decorations early and possibly find some great bargains when you’re not in a rush.
Choose a Location for Your Wedding – Hire a Wedding Director – Order Decorations, Flowers, Invitations, and Wedding Party Gifts – and don’t forget about the wedding rings, catering, wedding songs, reception decorations, punch, food, and of course, the wedding cake. These are all crucial parts of wedding planning and have to be taken care of early on to minimize stress. If you take care of the wedding planning far in advance, you’ll see things fall into place and be able to enjoy your wedding as it was meant to be!

Pretty Maids In A Row
Select dresses with simple lines, such as an A line silhouette or a gathered skirt and empire waist.
Look for strapless, spaghetti straps, off the shoulder or v necklines. Avoid patterns and bright colors. Big or small, no one wants to look like an Easter egg walking down the aisle. Imagine each of your bridesmaids in each dress that you seriously consider. Try the dress on. See if it is comfortable and looks as good on as it does on the hanger. Afterwards have your maid of honor go back to try on the final selections. Keep your bridesmaids budgets in mind. They will be happier paying less if you are torn between two dresses and the price difference is significant.

An experienced professional will cater to your every need and focus on making your wedding day a true reflection of who you are, without the stress and the worry of having to do it all yourself. They will be there by your side, ready and available for any last minute emergencies or unexpected situations. Let a bridal assistant be the one to help mom settle her nerves, provide tissues for emotional dad, keep track of rowdy groomsmen, make sure you and your bridesmaids have your flowers and sew a lost button back on the flower girl’s dress. Even the smallest glitch in your plan can cause a perfectly planned wedding schedule to fall apart in minutes. A bridal assistant will be there to make sure you stay on time and on schedule, which means that you stay relaxed and happy!
Many personal bridal assistants will have a number of services to choose from and will be able to customize a package to meet your needs and budget. These services can range from providing assistance in the months, weeks, or days leading up to the wedding. During your initial consultation with a potential bridal assistant you should be prepared to explain what your unique needs are in order to make your wedding dreams a reality.

While you might not realize it now, your choice of wedding shoes is almost as important as the gown itself. Remember, you’ll be walking down the aisle in those shoes, standing at the altar, posing for photographs, greeting your guests, cutting the cake, and possibly dancing. After you add up all the hours, it’s easy to see that comfort will be your number one priority when choosing shoes for this special day. Here are some points to remember when choosing the perfect shoe:
Comfort is an issue
Even if you’re a hardened stiletto-wearer, take it from countless brides who’ve already been there: you want wedding shoes that are not only fabulous but comfortable too. You want to be able to focus on and enjoy every last detail of your wedding, not your aching feet. You’ve been warned, so choose a structure that fits your feet and be sure to break them in! A couple of weeks before your wedding, start wearing your shoes for an hour or two at a time inside the house, then work up to three to five hours total. Also consider shoe pads if necessary to prevent slipping or chafing.
Style is also an issue
Yes, your guests may only catch a glimpse of them but any good shoe-aholic knows that it’s what you wear on your feet that will complete your look. Fortunately, bridal shoe designers are well aware of the fact that brides are going to be spending one very long day in her new shoes and most of that time will be spent either standing or dancing. So you should be able to find a pair of gorgeous bridal shoes that are as easy on the feet as they are on the eyes.

Jennifer Miller and Jason Reynolds
May 31, 2008
Ceremony: Covenant Presbyterian Church
Reception: Historic Rucker Place, Birmingham
The Back Story
Jason and Jennifer were friends first. Both students at Auburn, they hung out in the same circle. And while each later confessed a secret crush on the other, they remained just friends for a long time. That is, until the first time they spent time alone together. And then almost instantly they knew he/she was the one, according to Jennifer. A year later of dating later, they both graduated from Auburn and moved to Birmingham. Shortly after that, Jason bought a new home and invited Jennifer over. She arrived and thought it strange that Jason’s car wasn’t there. What she found when she opened the door was music, flowers, and clues that lead to Jason, waiting on one knee with a ring and proposal of marriage. After celebrating with family and friends, they got down to the task of planning a wedding.
The Planning
Planning was easier for Jennifer than most brides. Jennifer and her mother Gail both work in the bridal industry so they know most of the wedding vendors and are up on all of the latest trends. Jennifer already knew she wanted a classic black and white wedding. But unlike most brides, Jennifer didn’t have to visit lots of venues and worry about where they would hold the reception. That part was a given because her family owns Historic Rucker Place, the landmark wedding and party venue on Southside. But since Jennifer and her family have witnessed many, many weddings at Rucker Place, they wanted something unique and distinctive for their special day.
The Details
Inspired by their love of Italy, they decided on a Tuscan theme and called on designer Laure Freidman to bring their vision of a night in Italy to life. They used design elements reminiscent of Italy as they planned the décor: sculptures, fountains, and lighting created a magical scene. While they used few flowers, the flowers they did use had big impact: the cascading orchid bouquet Jennifer carried was magnificent and the calla lily bouquets for the bridesmaids were striking. Jennifer also knew exactly who she wanted to design her dream gown and absolutely gushed about her Heidi Elnora backless all lace gown. “I loved my dress! It was my favorite thing about the wedding— I could wear it every day and never get tired of it” says Jennifer. Bridesmaids wore classic black gowns from Bella Bridesmaid and the men wore traditional black tuxedos from our wedding partner, Mr. Burch Formalwear.
For the food, they decided on a Tuscan themed menu including a large pasta bar that was a big hit with guests. The couple’s incredible “Tower of Pisa-like” seven tier wedding cake was designed by Bromberg’s wedding partner, Diane Olexa of Olexa’s in Mountain Brook. If you weren’t lucky enough to get a piece of this incredible cake, don’t worry. Olexa’s serves butter cream wedding cake every day. The party went on into the night as guests danced to the music of Just a Few Cats, toasted with the Italian liquor Limoncello, and snacked on flatbread pizzas. As the lights twinkled overhead, it really did feel just like a night in Italy.
Jennifer’s Advice to Brides
Jennifer said the most significant moment of her wedding was the instant she first saw Jason as they spent some quiet time together before the ceremony. “That helped me relax and it just took all of the nervousness away” she said. “I would recommend that to everyone” she continued. “Also, try to stop and enjoy every moment. From the engagement to the wedding, try not to obsess so much over the details or you’ll miss it” exclaims Jennifer.
After the wedding, the couple jetted away to a luxurious honeymoon trip to St. Barts where they were pampered in their own private villa. ”We didn’t want to leave, we were so spoiled” Jennifer told us.
Congratulations Jennifer and Jason—and best wishes for a happy life together!

Treat the people you cherish with love. The wedding is one day; your family and friends are forever. Keep perspective and focus on the future. Remind yourself that the wedding is only one day in your life. With so much hype leading up to the wedding day itself, it is easy to forget about preparing for your life as a married couple. Yes, the wedding day is unforgettable, but forgetting that you will be together for the next 50-60 years is not good. When things get out of control, close your eyes and remember the reason why you are planning this wedding in the first place.
Finally, keep in mind that on your wedding day, your thoughts should be focused on the ceremony and what it stands for, not on the bridesmaids’ tan lines or the dress your new mother-in-law is wearing. If you are unable to let the small details go, you will miss the big picture, and that would really make for an unfortunate wedding day experience.
